Recovery, soreness and deload
Soreness doesn't measure the quality of your training. Performance, sleep and the absence of joint pain tell you far more.
What the evidence says
- Soreness usually spikes with novelty or a concentrated block of volume.
- A deload can cut volume and effort for several days.
- You don't need to deload on a schedule if you keep progressing and recovering.
How to put it into practice today
Consider an easier week if your loads or reps drop across several sessions and aches, fatigue or lack of motivation start to climb.
